Quantum Physics Labs
In Spring 2006, I took Phys 2033 to complete my Physics minor at UMD. We were required to complete five different lab experiments to pass the course. All of my lab reports were typeset in LaTeX, and received excellent grades.
- Geiger-Muller Detector PDF exercised statistical methods in analyzing the randomness inherent with radiation. We also measured the dead-time of the equipment being used.
- Planck's Constant PDF observed the photoelectric effect, and specifically how kinetic energy is defined using stopping potential.
- q/m of Electron PDF observed and measured the elementary ratio q/m of electrons using Helmholtz coils and an electron gun.
- Gamma-ray Absorption PDF observed and measured the absorption coefficient of Lead under different radioactive sources.
- Hydrogen Spectrum PDF used spectroscopy to examine the emitting properties of three light sources. We used half-width to estimate the temperature of each energy state.
Feel free to use them to better understand your own experiments, but please cite me as a source.
